The Sunny Naantali

Hei taas! Kuten tiedättekin, kävin vierailulla Turussa. Matkustettuani näinkin kauas, päätin matkustella hieman lisää: Naantaliin, Suomen kuuluisaan kesäkaupunkiin joka on kuuluisa Muumeistaan. Käytimme päivän katsellen kauniita vanhoja rakennuksia ja pieniä kauppoja.

Hello again! As you know, I visited Turku. Having travelled that far, I decided to travel a bit more: to Naantali, the famous summer city of Finland and home of the Moomins (If you don't know them, shame on you, google them now). We spent the day looking at the beautiful old build buildings and little shops. 

Ensimmäinen kauppamme oli tässä kauniissa rakennuksessa, jossa sijaitsi ihanin pieni karkkikauppa, täynnä ulkomaaisia makeisia (joista useita olen kylläkin maistanut Pekingissä). Ostimme siis pussin Ruotsalaisia irtokarkkeja.

Our first stop was located at this charming old building, which hosted the most amazing little candy store, selling foreign sweets (many of which I had tasted in Beijing though). We bought a bag of Swedish candy.

Naantalin vanha kirkko on ikoninen osa kaupunkia, peräisin 1400-luvulta. Ja niinpä tietysti piti mennä katsomaan sitä. Pidän historiasta, ja sen tunsikin hienosti esimerkiksi hautausmaalla täynnä hautoja 1800 luvulta.

The old Naantali Church is an iconic part of the city, from the late 1400's. Thus we had to go and see it obviously. The graveyard was full of graves from the late 1800's and you could definitely feel the history the area bears.

Koska Naantali on kuuluisa merenrannastaan, meidän tietysti piti ottaa kävely sen rannalla. Harmi kyllä sää oli liian kylmä uinille, olisin tarvinnut saunan tätä varten. Ravintolat näyttivät loistavilta mutta jälleen kerran, ei tarpeeksi rahaa. Kun toinen on opiskelija ja toinen eläkkeellä, ei erityinen yllätys.

Since Naantali is famous for the seaside, we obviously had to take a stroll through it. It's unfortunate that the weather was definitely way too cold for a swim, I'd really need a sauna for that. The restaurants looked amazing but for that again we were too broke. When one is a student and the other is living on retirement, that's no surprise. 

Koska olen valtava shoppailija, rakastuin tietysti pikkuisiin kauppoihin. Niin paljon käsitöitä, ekotuotteita ja taidetta. Minulla oli myös hauskaa lueskellessa talojen nimikylttejä... kuten saatoitte huomata yläpuolella. Nostalgia Kauppa oli ehdottomasti suosikkini. Täynnä retrotuotteita ja Titanic muistomerkki yläkerrassa, mukaanlukien oikeita osia laivasta.

With the huge shopper I am, I instantly fell in love with the little boutiques on the streets. So many handworks, ecological products and artwork. I also had a fun time reading the names of the different houses... as you may have noted above. The Nostalgia Shop was possibly my favorite. Full of retro stuff and a beautiful set of Titanic memorial upstairs, including real parts of the ship.

Vaikuttaa etten minä yksin pidä tätä kaupunkia yhtenä Suomen kauneimmista kaupungeista. Vaikka sää ei ollutkaan täydellinen eikä turistiaika huipussaan, paikalla oli silti kävijöitä. Onnistuin myös bongaamaan kuvausryhmän ja päätellen erään jäsenen paidasta, kyseessä oli uusimman Risto Räppääjän kuvaukset. Olisi pitänyt kysyä roolia ;)

It seems that it isn't just me who finds this town one of the most beautiful in Finland. Even though the weather wasn't perfect, and it's not the peak of the tourist season there were already several visitors in the town. I also managed to notice a film crew around, and taking from a shirt one member was wearing, it seems like they are filming the next Ricky Rapper (Finnish children's story character) movie. Should have asked if I can become an extra ;) 

I did do some shopping during this time in Turku, and just warning: I will post it :D

Amateur and Professional gardening

Iso moikka synnyinseudultani Turun suunnalta! Olen täällä tervehtimässä isoäitiäni. Eilen saavuin paikalle Turkuun, josta matkasimme asettumaan isoäitini talolle. Kuten tavallista minut raahattiin puutarhakierrokselle. Isoäitini on kova hoitamaan puutarhaa ja hänen pihansa onkin pakopaikka minulle. Kukkien kirjo ja rauhallisuus... niin paljon tulppaaneja ja unikoita! En ole valokuvaaja, mutta... toivottavasti pidätte kuvista yhtä paljon kuin minä rakastan olla täällä. Vaikka en teekkään valokuvapostauksia, tässäpä yksi.

A big hello from my birth region, Turku area! I am here visiting my amazing grandmother. Yesterday I simply arrived to Turku, and travelled to get settled at my grandmothers house. As per usual I was taken out to the garden. My grandmother is an avid gardener and her yard is like a sanctuary for me. The amount of flowers, the calmness... So many tulips and poppies! I'm not a photographer but... I hope you still like the pictures as much as I love visiting here. Even though I don't do photo posts... here's basically one now.

Tänään vierailimme Turun yliopiston kasvitieteellisellä puutarhalla Ruissalossa tätini liittyessä seuraan. Vaikka vielä onkin alkukesää, monet pionit ja alppiruusut olivat jo täydessä kukassa ulkona. Sisällä innostuin erityisesti kaikista trooppisista kasveista, erityisesti syötävistä (en tosin kyllä päässyt maistelemaan).  Ja tietysti mehikasveista, joista pidän koska ne vaikuttavan olevan ainoita joita en onnistu tappamaan heti.

Today we visited the famous botanical garden of the University of Turku at Ruissalo, with my aunt joining us. Although it's still early in the summer, many of the peonies and rhododendron were in full bloom outside. Inside I was excited especially over the tropical plants, especially the edible ones (though I couldn't get a taste). And of course all the succulent plants, which I love because it seems that they are the only ones I ever manage to keep alive. 

Minulla oli mahtava päivä, sää oli yksinkertaisesti upea ja sain taas vihdoin tilaisuuden pitää lempimekkoani. Huomenna suuntana onkin päiväretki kauniiseen Naantaliin, lisää kuvia siis tiedossa!

I had a great day, the weather is absolutely amazing, and I finally had the chance to wear my favorite dress again. Tomorrow we'll head of for a day trip to beautiful Naantali, so expect more photos soon!

Okei, aloitin juuri massivisen hiusoperaation, tässä postaus joka inspiroi minua tähän. Päätin hankkia shokkipunaiset latvat itselleni. Tietysti olen tosin luonnollinen brunette, joten värjääminen on pieni haaste... Niinpä päätin ensin värjätä latvani vaaleammiksi ombre tyyliin jotta väri pomppaisi paremmin. Tämä oli pelottava päätös koska olen vannonut ettei minusta ikinä tule blondia.

Okay, so I just started a massive hair project, this is one of the posts that inspired me.  I decided to get shock red tip-dye. Of course I'm a natural dark brunette, so that's a tiny little challenge... So I decided to first ombre dye my hair to blonde to make the dye show up better. This was scary, as I have vowed to never go blonde.

Koska hiukseni ovat niin tummat, päädyin extreme päätökseen. The Schwarzkopf Blonde Ultimate vaalennusaine oli tarjouksessa, joten ostin vahvimman: Xstra Xstreme Lightener. Nimi itsessään oli lupaava, ja värjäysesimerkit takana väittivät aineen olevan tarpeeksi vahvaa toimiakseen myös minun hiuksissani. Alehinta oli erittäin sopiva, 7€.

Since my hair is so dark, I decided to go extreme. The Schwarzkopf Blonde Ultimate hair lightener was on sale, and so I got the strongerst availabel: Xstra Xstreme Lightener. The name was very promising, and the dyeing guide showed that this would be strong enough to work on my hair. The price was also very reasonable when on sale, only 7€.

Tässä setti. Vaalennuspulveri, kehitysaine, vaalennusaine sekä hoitoeliksiiri. Enemmän kuin mihin olen tottunut totta puhuakseni, tuli hieman kemisti olo.

Here's the set. Lightening powder, application paste, and lightening creme plus care elixir. More than I'm used to, to be honest, made me feel a bit like a chemist. 

Tässä henkilökohtainen hius stylistini, pikkusiskoni. Valitettavasti hän on päättänyt olla huono ihminen ja tuhlata kykynsä kauppakorkeaan hakemisella. Surullista... Hän panikoi vain hieman projektin aikana, mikä on kunnioitettavaa.

Here is my personal hairstylist, my little sister. Unfortunately she has decided to be a bad person and waste her skills with styling for economics school. What a waste... She only freaked out slightly during the project, which is admirable.

Prosessi itsessään vei lähemmäs tunnin. Ensin alemmat latvani värjättiin, sitten päällimmäiset, ja lopuksi pitempää aina silmieni tasolle oikealta vasemmalle. Värin vaihtumisen pystyi näkemään jo minuutteja värin lisäämisestä. Efekti oli niin vahva että saatoin nähdä sen television kautta. Hetken aikaa jopa mietin vain jättäväni latvat blondeiksi, sattaisi olla mukavaa vaihtelua... tai sitten ei.

The process itself took nearly an hour all together. First my lower tips were dyed, then the upper layer tips, then up to near my eyes from right to left. You could see the color changing only after a few minutes from adding the dye. The effect was so strong I could observe it on the TV screen. And for a moment I actually thought about keeping my tips blonde, could be a nice change... Or not.

Ilmeisesti en olekkaan niin sisäinen blondi kuin jotkut väittävät. ahvimmalla värinpoistolla, kaikki mitä sain aikaan oli... porkkanapää. Ja nyt näytänkin sitten kerrosvanukkaalta! Odotin toki että jotakin menee pieleen, joten tällä kertaa tämä lähinnä naurattaa. Kestän helposti viikon.. tätä, ja sitten nuo latvat ovatkin niin punaiset että luulette minua paloautoksi :D Joten rakkaat brunetet: jos hiuksissanne on vähäkään punaista, ottakaa neuvoni ja vaalentakaa hiuksenne ammattilaisella. Matkustan huomenna Turkuun, joten lisää postauksia (ja näitä hiuksia) tulossa. Varokaa.

Apparently I'm not as much of an inner blonde as some try to claim. With the strongest dye, all I got was... ginger. And now I look like a pudding cup! I did expect something to go wrong though, and thus I'm just laughing. I can easily take a week of... this, and then those tips will be so bright red you'll mistake me for a fire engine :D So fellow brunettes, if you have the slightest bit of red in your hair, take my advice, and do this with a professional. I am traveling to Turku tomorrow, so more posts (and this hair) incoming. Beware.

Fun times at the funpark.

Niille jotka näkivät ja arvasivat edellisestä postauksestani, kyllä, minä ja kaverini kävimme Linnanmäellä. Huolimatta siitä että koin äskettäin yhden elämäni kamalimmista päivistä, tämä retki oli tervetullut pikku seikkaily, erityisesti kiitos ihanien ystävieni, Malinan ja Tanjan. Tulimme siihen tulokseen että vain isoissa laitteissa pyöriminen adrenaliinipotkujen takia saa aikaan vain huonon olon ja väsyttää. Joten kokeilimme hieman jotain muutakin, ja olen varsin ylpeä tuloksista. ELi mitä oikein tapahtuikaan? Tsekkaa alta.

Those who saw and guessed it, yes, me and my friends visited the Linnanmäki amusement park in Helsinki. Despite having one of the worst days of my life very recently, this day was a welcome little adventure, especially thanks to my amazing friends, Malina and Tanja. We came to the conclusion that just going to the big rides for adrenaline kicks makes you nauseous and it's tiring. So we tried some other things too. And I'm proud of the results. So what did transpire? Check below.

Vierailin äskettäin kuuluisassa kesäkohteessa ja kokoilen parhaillaan videota reissusta. Voin vain sanoa että päivä oli jännittävä, innostava ja ehdottoman hullu. I just visited a very famous summer destination, and I'm now compiling a video of the trip. All I can say is that it was exciting, exhilarating and crazy. I'm back! (AGAIN!)

Jälkeen (pitkän) tauon kiitos... noh, kaiken. Olen taas aloittanut bloggaamaan. Suhteellisen pysyvästi, saatan taas jokin päivä lopettaa mutta niin ei pitäisi tapahtua hetkeen (vuosiin?), ja yritän myös postata videoita asap.... tai niin pian kun onnistun hommaamaan kohtuullisen videokameran.

Mitä siis tapahtuu tämän kansainvälisen oppilaan elämässä? Aloitetaanpa siitä että "kansainvälinen" osus on nyt ohi. Ellei lasketa niitä n. 2 kertaa  päivässä kun joudun puhumaan englantia töissä. Olen valmistumassa lukiosta, kirjoitukset ovat ohi. Uskon että osa syystä miksi bloggaan edes nyt on se että TODELLA ikävöin yöllistä esseenkirjoittelua. En vitsaile.

Eli Muutoksia on tiedossa. Ensinnäkin, minun pitää ajatella uusiksi blogi. Suomalainen Kiinassa oli kiinnostavaa, suomalainen kansainvälisessä koulussa jotenkuten. Nyt olen vain suomalainen tyttö Suomessa. Olen ajatellut keskittyväni elämäni keskeisimpiin hullutuksiin, asioihin joita teen avoimesti mutta jotka saavat ihmiset luulemaan että olen paennut mielisairaalasta (tai että olen alien). Mikäli olet syvästi ideaa vastaan, kerroppa siitä alla ja ehdota jotain parempaa. En tosin aijo muotiblogata, koska jos kukaan ottaisi minulta neuvoja, he tulisivat katumaan sitä enkä tahdo olla vastuussa sellaisesta.

Eli juuri parhaillaan minulla on edessä välivuosi. Mitä tahdon tehdä on tehdä kaikenlaista kummallista sen aikana (toivottavasti pystyen silti pitämään työni). Ja te saatte minun mukahumoristiset selostukseni JA KUVIA! Uskokaa, teen tästä kyllä vielä hyvän.

Hello Hello Hello

After a (long) hiatus due to... Well, everything. I am blogging again. Semi permanently, I may quit again but that shouldn't happen for a while (years?), and I'll try and post videos too asap... well, as soon as I get a reasonable videocamera. 

So what is going on in the life of this international student? Let's begin with the fact that the "international" part is now over. Except for the 2-or-so times a day I need to use English at work. I am about to graduate from high school, the finals are now over. I believe that part of the reason I'm blogging now anyways is the fact that I REALLY miss late-night essay writing. Not kidding. 

So there's going to be some changes. First of all, I really need to rethink this blog. Finnish girl in China was interesting, and Finnish girl in international school somewhat. Now I'm just a Finnish girl in Finland. What I am thinking is to concentrate on the eccentricities of my life, the stuff I openly do that makes people sometimes think I'm a runaway from a mental ward (or an alien). If you are really against this idea, please tell me below and suggest something better. I will not blog about fashion though, because if anyone was to take my advice they would regret it later and I don't want to be responsible for that. 

So what is going to happen is the fact that I'm now taking a gap year. What I want to do is do as much crazy weird stuff as I can while at it (hopefully while still being able to maintain a job). And you'll get my semi-humorous rant about them WITH PICTURES! Trust me, I'll make it good though.
